Music is Weird

(Sorry for not posting yesterday. I'll post two or three times today to make up for it 😊)

   Music is WEIRD.

Music is the strangest thing to me, because, we, as humans, create these toys to make certain sounds and then play them back and mix them together to listen to later. I sound like some sort of alien analyzing earth, but, I'm right!

To me, music is one of the most important things on earth. It can be nostalgic and bring back memories, or it can just be happy and fun. Depending on the genre, it can provoke different moods and feelings.

You know those edits of popular songs that are like "[song name] but played from outside a school bathroom at prom", that's the song with an echo or muffle effect on it? We make those because they make us feel a certain, weird way, or nostalgia for something we've never had before.

The comment sections on those videos are really cool, too. People come up with stories related to the song, like answers to a writing prompt. "What do you think of when you hear the song Dancing Queen?" Stuff like that.

If anyone watches Solar Sands on Youtube, I got introduced to this really fascinating music artist named James Leyland Kirby by one of his videos. He made a project called "The Caretaker" which has albums that are strange, sort of melancholy, but not sad.

They start as sampled old songs from the 1930's or 40's, kind of distorted and scratchy like they're being played on a record. Sort of like ballroom music.

People post really sad stories in the comment section, so be warned if you're sensitive about that stuff. However, there are some funny comments too, just to brighten the mood!

The stages of the album Everywhere At The End Of Time become more distorted as they progress, simulating the effects of memory loss. The total amount of time it would take to listen to the whole thing would be like 6 hours. If you're generally in a good mood/around people/doing fun things on the internet, try to listen to a stage, which lasts around 40-50 minutes.

I would not advise listening to albums when you're lonely or sad, as they can seem depressing, but when you're feeling optimistic, they can be a real bop. Like some Lo-fi beats to chill to.

My favorite song from "The Caretaker" is All You Are Going To Want To Do Is Get Back There from the album An Empty Bliss Beyond This World. I was going to post multiple songs I liked, but don't you just love it when your computer flips out on you and loses all your progress from the past 10 minutes?

Anyway beans, stay safe and wash your hands!
